To you who’s reading this right now,
Thank you for remembering this page.

A few days ago, I realized it is incredibly important to know your roots. And with that, I mean dialect. Every family has its dialect, some are often heard and some less common. A question was once posted to me and other people. “How many dialects are used in your country? Do you think they will continue to be used or are they dying out?” Some dialects are languages on its own. Like Cantonese is like a language in Hong Kong. So will this form of language die if Mandarin is conquering?
My answer to that question is in my country, there are many different dialects and I would say, mostly are used by elderly people. It was their form of language and we should continue that because it is part of our roots, somehow. I fear dialects would die out because there’s just this very special thing about it. There are certain things I cannot explain why but some things are funnier said in a different way, some ruder, some more polite. Why ar? Haha! But I have to admit I like listening to different dialects even though out of the many, I only understand one. I hope they will continue to be used. It’s not something a school can teach, it can only be taught and learned at home. And according to a friend, the only way to learn and be better at a language, is to speak it.
Here’s something from our best friend, Mr WKPD.
Language varieties are often called dialects rather than languages:
- because they have no standard or codified form,
- because the speakers of the given language do not have a state of their own,
- because they are rarely or never used in writing,
- or because they lack prestige with respect to some other, often standardised, variety.
As weird as it sounds, I’m starting to appreciate my dialect and I enjoy trying to figure out the words because it’s just a different pronunciation but the same Chinese word. True, dialect is rarely used because everybody’s saying Mandarin is important and it will enable you to communicate better with people from other country especially China. Having said that, does that mean we forget our dialect? I’m not too sure what’s my point actually, but I just want to say when I have kids, I will make sure they learn Cantonese because it is also a form of communication even though we’ll rarely use it, it is our culture.
Funny why I even mentioned anything about “Knowing Your Roots”, it’s because I’ve been watching tv shows and I had difficulty understanding what they were saying. I feel happy that I am able to watch channel 48 now and am able to understand bits and pieces of what they’re saying even though not fully. But I think I am improving! This is so funny, once I went to Malaysia, my family and I, we were trying to check into the hotel so we were talking to the bell boy. We spoke to him in English because he looked like an Indian and end up, he spoke fluent Cantonese!!! My dad said he’s better than me even! Hahaha!
I AM GOING TO IMPROVE MY CANTONESE. and to do that, WATCH MORE R.L & C.H!

A Son asked his father, “Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?” The father who, despite having a heart condition, says “Yes”. They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons. The father always saying “Yes” to his son’s request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his fater, “Dad, let’s join the Ironman together.”To which, his father said “Yes”.
Now just in case you wouldn’t know, ‘The Iron Man’ is the hardest triathlon in existence;
4 Km Swimming, 180 Km Biking, and finally another 42 Km Running, in one stroke!
Again, father said ‘Yes’.
Also, there was one comment from the first video that said this.
“Believe or dont believe in God thats your choice. But the courage , the love and the selflessness shown by these people is something that should make each one of us want to be better people.
Getting caught up in whether this is down to God or not is missing the point.
This is about courage and love and I for one wish I had a fraction of that shown by these people.”
Can never agree more.
After watching the video, or any inspiring videos, it struck me that really, the things or some i’m worrying and thinking about every single bloody day is really not that important anymore. Seeing these people being incredibly selfless does make us wonder what have we been doing, doesn’t it?
I suggest you google ‘Team Hoyt’ and read the information on wikipedia.

Currently,
A long time ago, I was on the verge of committing suicide when a guy came to the roof to have lunch. He saw me climbing over the railing and asked me to share his lunch with him. After receiving my puzzled look, he explained, “everyone should die happy. or at least with a full stomach.” We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary last month.
